Billie Jean’s Friends

Meet Billie Jean’s Friends!

At DAWG we have a few special needs dogs looking for a very special home.

Billie Jean’s Story

Billie Jean was found walking along the highway in Buellton. Her outdated microchip was registered to Las Vegas. DAWG staff & volunteers call this senior Border collie “intelligent, affectionate & exceptionally loyal.” When she slipped a disc, DAWG provided care through our on-site veterinary clinic. She has been living at our shelter since 2009, patiently waiting for her forever family and home. But she is often overlooked because of her back injury & her misunderstood protective behavior.

In 2011, Karen of Hydro Paws in Santa Barbara generously offered to provide water therapy sessions at a discounted rate to help Billie Jean with her rehabilitation. Compassionate community members stepped up to help by donating money. At this same time, Susan from CA School for Dogs was donating training sessions for other special needs DAWGs. They became the first dogs known as “Billie Jean’s Friends”.

How Long Do They Get Help?

As a no-kill shelter, all dogs who come into DAWG’s care have a home for life. We hope that, eventually, someone like you will adopt them into a family. The Billie Jean’s Friends program is really about helping them get the care they need, whatever that is, & helping them find their forever homes. For those that do require long-term—perhaps life-long or hospice– care, either at our shelter or in a loving foster home, you will be helping them live the very best life possible.

Thank you for being a part of this work of love. Thanks for being one of Billie Jean’s Friends.
