- Volunteers are required to attend an orientation, and complete training as deemed necessary by DAWG. We suggest volunteers commit to a regular weekly schedule for 6 months, with Adoption Attendants committing to a minimum of 8 hours per month.
- Volunteers are required to adhere to the rules explained in the orientation as they pertain to animal handling.
- Volunteers shall treat all people and animals with respect and courtesy.
- Volunteers should refer questions from the public regarding individual dogs, and DAWG policies, to the shelter manager or a lead volunteer.
- For safety reasons, volunteers are required to wear appropriate clothing as discussed in orientation when working with animals.
- Volunteers should not be in any area of the shelter without proper training or supervision. Guests of volunteers are not allowed to accompany volunteers inside the kennel areas.
- Parents are required to sign paperwork for, and accompany junior volunteers.
- Any accident or injury should be reported to the shelter manager the same day it occurs.
- Volunteers must accept the guidance and decisions of the staff.
- Volunteers shall agree to DAWG’s right to release them for unsafe practices.
