At DAWG, one of our highest priorities is the health and well-being of the dogs in our care. Unlike city or county shelters, whose residents are in place for a short time, as a no-kill shelter, our dogs are often with us for weeks, months or even years. The shelter is the only safe place and home they know. When strangers, even well-meaning ones looking to adopt, walk through the shelter, it stresses our dogs. We do guided tours through the shelter with people interested in seeing dogs to help alleviate that stress and we make appointments for potential adopters to meet the dogs. We’ll spend as much time as you need and introduce you to as many matches as you’d like to meet in order to make the best match and help you find the perfect new family member!

If you would like to see the dogs, you’re welcome to drop by the shelter anytime during buisness hours! To meet a specific dog, you will need to submit an application and make an appointment.
There are two types of appointments:
-Walk-through appointments: This is the first step in the process of finding your new family member! It’s a 15 - 30 minute guided tour through our shelter with a staff member discussing what type of dog you are looking for, and showing you dogs that would be a good match. You can come for a walk through anytime, and you don’t need to make an appointment but if you’d like us to know you’re coming you’re welcome to make an appointment for a walk through tour below.
-Meet & Greet: After you have found a dog you’re interested in meeting, or a few dogs that you think would be a good match, you must fill out an application prior to making a meet & greet appointment to meet the dogs you’re interested in with our adoption coordinator. After you’ve submitted your application online or in person you can come meet the dogs! At the meet & greet, the adoption coordinator will tell you everything we know about the dogs, and answer any questions you may have.
Make an appointment below! If you’re just getting the process started, schedule a walk through appointment. If you know what dog you’d like to come meet, submit an application and schedule a meet & greet appointment. We look forward to seeing you at the shelter soon!
